Enugu State Governor, Sullivan Chime of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday expressed his total support for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
Speaking at the swearing in of 17 newly elected local government chairmen in Enugu, Chime re-affirmed the support of the people of Enugu for the President and his programmes.
The Enugu helmsman also dismissed fears of incursion of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into his state, saying “Enugu State is not sick and does not need APC.
He assured that as long as President Jonathan remains in the business of politics, the people of Enugu State would always identify with him.
“Anytime he declares, we will always identify with him. Enugu State is not a place the President will come to campaign because the state is for him. Enugu is not sick and so, does not need APC” Chime said.
He stressed the dominance of PDP in Enugu, saying that no form of opposition exists in the state.
Chime described the inauguration of the council chairmen as historic, saying that it was the first time in the country’s 100 years of existence that in a state, all the council chairmen were returned unopposed without any contest.
He said they have perfected the art of politics in Enugu State under PDP, and are now striving to perfect the art of governance.
He, however, chided members of the National Assembly for maintaining a distance from their constituencies.
“Those who are operating in the Diaspora should come back. We will not allow them to breakaway since they were all beneficiaries of the party. As the election year approaches, they should come back home and associate with their people” he said.
Commenting on his succession plan, Chime said he was praying for a successor, much better than him.
“If you say you are praying for somebody like me, then you are not improving. I am praying for somebody much better than me” he said.
The governor gave kudos to the state chairman of PDP, Vita Abba, for the successes recorded in elections and thanked him for holding the party together in Enugu State.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the inaugurated chairmen, Chairman of Enugu East, Cornelius Nnaji, assured the governor of their support as his foot soldiers this election year.
Other dignitaries at the ceremony include former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, Vita Abba, Senators Ayogu Eze and Gilbert Nnaji, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Eugene Odo, other members of the National and State Assemblies, traditional rulers and church leaders.
