The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe has said the declaration of intention by Buhari and Atiku to contest the 2015 elections posed no threat to the Presidency.
He said this while addressing State House journalists today in Abuja today hours after Gen. Buhari made a formal declaration to contest for the APC presidential ticket.
He said the president had been under intense pressure from ordinary Nigerians as well as local and foreign interest groups to seek a second term in office.
Okupe said Jonathan would be contesting the 2015 elections with “serial losers” who, according to him, lack leadership qualities and have nothing new to tell Nigerians.
“The declaration by the opposition is not really something new. Most of the candidates of the opposition are serial failures. Atiku has tried twice and has failed, Buhari has done it four times and he has failed. If you present yourself for an election, first, second, third and fourth time, what new things are they bringing? Have they gone to school or are they bringing new things? We’re absolutely unperturbed. The president is going to contest against serial losers, people who never won election, people who have no leadership quality,” he said.
Asked when precisely Jonathan would declare whether or not he would contest the 2015 elections, Okupe said the president would soon take an appropriate decision in the interest of Nigeria and the People’s Democratic Party after due consideration.
