Open Campaign Office in Kaduna
There
is now some glimmer of hope for Vice- President Namadi Sambo that he would be
picked as running mate to President Goodluck Jonathan if the President chooses
to run in 2015.
Before now, there was a rumour that the V-P could be dropped for
not delivering his constituencies in the 2011 presidential elections.
Over the weekend in Kaduna, however, the state governor, Alhaji
Murktar Yero and Vice President Namadi Sambo jointly launched a new secretariat
for the Goodluck/Sambo Presidential campaigns, thus reinforcing belief that
Sambo would run again with Jonathan. The office is located near NEPA Roundabout
in Kaduna city.

The newly renovated campaign office was formerly the late
Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa’s 2011 gubernatorial campaign office. But
recently, after Yakowa’s death, the state government re-opened the office for
the Jonathan/ Sambo campaigns.
Sunday Mirror gathered that the campaign office, apart from
being used for series of political meetings has also been witnessing an influx
of northern interest groups on daily basis.
The meetings, it was learnt, were intended for grassroots
mobilisations. While the Jonathan/ Sambo office buzzes with activities however,
the office of the state’s chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, located
behind Nigeria Defence Academy, NDA, old Campus Junction, Unguwan Sarki, remain
usually deserted as only occasional meeting by the party officials are held
there.
Vice President Sambo who is battling to retain his position in
2015 is working hard against the backdrop of a rumour that he could be dropped
as the President’s running mate.
The joint campaign office is seen as a morale booster for Sambo
having lost his polling unit, ward, senatorial zone and state presidential
polls to Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, in the 2011 polls.
This was also lent credence during Kaduna State University
maiden convocation held yesterday when the campaign office picked up full
political activities with the influx of thousands of politicians trooping in to
pay solidarity to Vice-President Sambo who attended the event in Kaduna.
