Former governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai, who has been battling with health challenges following injuries sustained in an air mishap in 2012 is likely to be flown abroad again.
LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered from sources close to the corridors of power at Government House, Jalingo, that the government was irked by reports of its abandoning Suntai, and may have decided to wade in though it has cost the state millions of naira to offset Suntai’s medical bills abroad.
Suntai, who celebrated his 53rd birthday anniversary on June 30, 2015 at his private house in Jalingo, has truly been abandoned by friends and well-wishers, a situation which has become most worrisome to the family members. He is believed to have suffered a setback in his health a few days ago.
Further investigations revealed that even his former cabinet members did not extend the usual greetings in the media as they had been doing, just as foods and assorted drinks provided by the family members at the birthday were left untouched due to the absence of well-wishers who were earlier invited to grace the occasion.
When accosted, one of his past senior and influential aides who has been reappointed by Governor Darius Ishaku (name withheld), confirmed that he didn’t know Suntai celebrated his birthday. “I just heard this from your now. Even the date was no longer in my knowledge,” he satated.
It would be recalled that Suntai who left Government House on May 29, 2015, moved to a private residence purchased by the immediate past administration owing to the expiration of his eight year tenure as governor of Taraba State. He has not been able to meet up with his medical treatment abroad.
Unconfirmed sources alleged that the current state governor, Dairus Ishaku, has blamed the shortage of funds as a main hindrance for supporting the governor. He noted that the state government was incapable of continuing to foot the medical bills of the former governor.
