CONFAB: NIGER CANVASSES REVERT TO GOWON’S 12 STATES

NIGER State government has suggested the reversal to former 12 states of the federation as earlier created by the former Military administration of General Yakubu Gowon in 1967.
The position of the state government was made known in a document presented to the Presidential Advisory Committee on National Dialogue during an interactive session with the people of the North Central zone held at Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre in Minna on Wednesday
Members of the presidential committee on national dialogue headed by its Chairman, Senator Femi Okurounmu was in Niger State capital on Wednesday to collect inputs of the people from the zone to prepare the National conference proper
Niger State government’s position was made known by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Communications and Integration, Professor Yahaya Kuta, in a paper where the state suggested that membership of the proposed national conference be made up of 910 delegates , consisting of a representative of each of the 774 Local Governments in the country, 100 special delegates and 36 traditional rulers one from each of the state of the federation.
It was the submission of Niger state that the duration of the conference should be between three to six months and the establishment of three federal capital cities for Nigeria in Lagos, Rivers and Abuja as well as revert to small towns and villages as new states capital for overall general development.
Earlier, during a courtesy call on the state governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu,, the chairman of the committee, Senator Femi Okurounmu said the committee’s nationwide interactive session was to consult with all stakeholders.
