At a press conference in Zurich today, British comedian, Simon Brodkin gatecrashed and got for himself a media pass, only to walk to Blatter on stage, where he was addressing the media.

With bales of fake US dollars in his hands, Brodkin, according to an account by Daily Mail calmly walked up to Blatter’s position behind a table at the front of the stage and placed the notes on the table, saying: ‘This is for North Korea 2026’. FIFA has no such decision on the table, but Brodkin certainly used the sarcasm to underscore what money could do to sway hosting rights to even the most objectionable regime in the world in North Korea.

Brodkin then faced the media just as Blatter frantically gestured to his security to get Brodkin offstage.

But before securitymen could remove him, he threw a huge bundle of notes into the air, which rained down around the out-going president of football’s governing body.

Blatter insisted that the stage must be cleaned of the fake money left by Brodkin before the conference could continue.

‘ ‘This has nothing to do with football,’ said Blatter, who returned within a few minutes and quipped about the incident.

‘I just called my late mother and she said, `Don’t worry, it’s just a lack of education,” he said.

If there is anything the Brodkin achieved, it may be in Blatter having to reverse himself again about his resignation from the presidency of FIFA.

He had in the wake of the bribery scandal that the US government is probing, said he would step down at the next special congress of FIFA later this year.

Some weeks ago, he said he never gave any undertaking that he was resigning.

But today in Zurich he declared that he would not stand for another term as FIFA president in the new elections, scheduled for February.
