National Coordinator of Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, has warned that it is dangerous for the national leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; to turn Yoruba land to anything goes against the ideological core value that the Yoruba have long been associated with.
Adams gave the warning, at the weekend, while speaking with newsmen in his office, in Lagos, declaring that the Yoruba were ideologues, who believe and cherish dearly the establishment of true federalism that guarantee devolution of power and fiscal federalism as basis of running the country.
The OPC leader, who recalled the opposition mounted by the APC and Tinubu against the recently concluded National Conference, in spite of the successes recorded by those who took the Yoruba agenda to the exercise, lamented that, “The way Tinubu is going, he is going to eradicate the whole ideology of the Yoruba people.”
Otunba Adams, who also recalled that all other tribes in the country, including the South- South, South- East, Middle- Belt and the North were always more eager to listen to what the Yoruba had to say on key national issues at Confab, warned that it was quite dangerous for generations of Yoruba, where an individual as Tinubu now turned the race to “anything goes.”
“I remember vividly when we were at the Confab, the Ibos wanted to listen to Yoruba, the South- South wanted to listen to Yoruba, the Middle- Belt wanted to consult, what are the Yoruba saying?
“But in a situation where a personality now turns Yoruba to anything goes, it is very dangerous to the future of our generation and that of coming generation,” the OPC leader warned.
Adams, who is seething with anger over ongoing attacks on him by a factional group of OPC led by one Sina Akinpelu, who he described as sponsored, also warned the APC national leader to stop such attacks else he would take him (Tinubu) up in a battle.
A group, called the OPC National Coordinating Council, which described itself as pioneering members of the Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, had continued to decry Otunba Gani over the anti- Jega rally he organized, last Monday, in Lagos.
The group called for Adam’s resignation while other organisations, including the APC, condemned the OPC leader over the rally which they said paralysed Lagos.
“We know Tinubu; you know I am very close to him. We saw some press releases, they were not signed and yet they put their names. They were paid publications.
“I am beyond somebody you can damage in the media because I would not close my mouth, I would talk, I would paste posters, I would paste leaflets nothing less than 1 million in Lagos State, and by the time I do that everybody would know the kind of person Tinubu is.
“I would not wait on the media because I know he has more influence in the media. I would go and prepare my own personal media against him. I would have series 1, series 2 and before I get to series 7, alarm would blow,” he said.
Adams, who said that he had been in the struggle for freedom for over 20 years as student of late Lagos lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, maintained that he belonged to no political party and did not hate the APC, but chose people to associate with on basis of their antecedents and personalities, not on basis of political platforms they belonged.
Speaking further, the OPC National Coordinator, who said he was not given to looking for unnecessary publicity, disclosed that he had never been to many of the Government Houses in the South-West since the present office holders took over.
According to him, he only visited Alausa once and also met Fashola once at Marina.
“The only person that is practically friendly is Aregbesola. No matter the differences between me and Tinubu, Aregbe is still my friend. I am not fighting with APC; I have many of my friends in the party.
“I reflect my support based on individuals, not based on political parties. It is not as if I am working against APC, but I am telling the whole world that I am not supporting Buhari, I am not casting my vote for Buhari, my group is not casting its votes for Buhari, it is for President Jonathan,” he said.
