Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to probe the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Rotimi Amaechi.
The party also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to arrest and prosecute all former governors of the APC, alleging that the commission under Buhari is biased in the discharge of its duties.
Speaking when he received the PDP senate caucus yesterday in Abuja, PDP acting national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus also refuted the allegation by PDP aggrieved workers that the NWC embezzled the sum of N12 billion in nine months and gave a breakdown of how the money in question was spent. Secondus said the Buhari administration in its fight against corruption has only targeted former governors of the PDP leaving the APC governors.
The party said the APC- led government should know that democracy is not about blackmail, harassment and intimidation of opposition members but ensuring that the rule of law is truly and practically operational.
“Mr President should intervene, that so far, statistics shows clearly that the EFCC have only arrested members of our party, those who have served in government before. But there are APC governors, members of the APC who have served in various governments, they have been left alone.
“We believe that a government serious on anti-corruption crusade, it cannot be one-sided, it cannot be selective; it should be holistic. Therefore, let’s use this medium to ask that members of the APC who were governors before, are they clean? Are they giving them clean bill of health?” he said.
Secondus said the PDP realized over N11 billion from the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms last year, insisting that the party’s NWC has not embezzled the money as alleged in some quarters but channeled it for the last general elections.
Giving a breakdown of how the party spent the money, the PDP acting national chairman said 5 percent of the money went to local governments, 10 percent to the states, 5 percent to the zones and 15 percent for assignment while the remaining amount was used for election and other official purposes.
