Newly-appointed Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hameed Ibrahim Ali (retd.), got the shock of his life when all the five Deputy Comptroller Generals (DCGs) tendered their resignations in an October 29 letter to Ali.
The resignations took immediate effect.
They thanked the Federal Government for allowing them reach the height of their careers and averred that there was “no more height to aspire to in the Customs.”
The shock resignation came yesterday after Ali approved a roaster of annual leave for the DCGs.
Sequel to this, the DCGs allegedly convened an emergency secret meeting where they all decided to tender a voluntary retirement notice to Ali.
Last night, it was gathered that security was beefed up at the Wuse Zone 3 headquarters of the NCS in Abuja.
Former comptroller general, Mr Abdullahi Inde Dikko, who was appointed on August 20, 2009, retired voluntarily on August 17.
When contacted, Customs Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeniyi, declined comments.
