Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has ordered that members on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) be sanctioned for disrespecting his office during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting in the state. Besides, the governor also ordered their probe; he said since no apologies were demanded or rendered, the party’s Chairman, Chief Edwin Uzor, should institute necessary disciplinary actions against absen-tees.
The governor, who addressed party elders, leaders and stakeholders at the meeting at the party secretariat in Asaba, was shocked that in the middle of the parley, even the chairman on the board of the commission boycotted the meeting. They disrespected the governor by being outside the hall and chatting while the governor was delivering his address.
Enraged by their action, the governor stopped his address midway, condemned the attitude of the commission’s leadership, describing it as “a high level of indiscipline.” He lamented that it was “unfair, considering the fact that this is a time all hands need be on deck, because there is a lot of work to do to reorder the party and deliver the dividends of democracy to our people.
“This is the first meeting of the party” he continued, “in the last six weeks. I thought every member would accord this meeting utmost seriousness and respect. This shows a high level of indiscipline. This is unfair! There is a need for us to work hard, for all hands to be on deck to deliver on all aspects of our development programmes. We cannot afford to fail the people who have reposed so much confidence in us.”
