The Lagos State House of Assembly has revoked the impeachment of a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Pedro.

The Assembly passed a vote of confidence on him as a fit and proper person that could be entrusted with political and administrative responsibilities, a statement said on Thursday.

Pedro had been impeached by 32 members of the 5th Assembly on May 10, 2007, for alleged acts of misconduct.

He had, however, on the 22nd of June 2015, sent a petition to the Lagos State House of Assembly, seeking its indulgence to revisit and reverse the decision.

The statement read in part, “Sequel to the petition, the House constituted an eight man adhoc committee to look into the issue raised by the petitioner.

“The committee recommended that Pedro’s plea for pardon on the allegation that led to his impeachment, bothering on disloyalty to the party, affront to constituted authority and insubordination, among others, be forgiven.

“Lawmakers who contributed to the issues on the floor of the floor of the house were of the opinion that the former governor had gone through psychological trauma for nine years and had shown remorse through his withdrawal of the court case and should be forgiven.”

The Speaker, Mudasiru Obasa, was said to have requested a physical vote with a raise of the hand by the lawmakers in favour of the motion.

Thirty six lawmakers reportedly voted in support.
