A full complement of seven justices of the Supreme Court this afternoon re-affirmed the election of Gov. Yahaya Bello as the Kogi State Governor.
The justices however said that reasons for their decision would be given on Friday.
The panel of justices that heard the appeals were made up of Justices Olukayode Arioola, Sylvester Ngwuta, Clara Bata Ogunbiyi, Dattijo Muhammed, John Inyang Okoro, Kudirat Kekere- Ekun and Amiru Sanusi, all Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria ( JJSC).
The appeals were filed by James Faleke, Idris Wada, ADC party and the Labour party who are all challenging the validity of Governor Yahaya Bello’s election.
The Kogi governorship election was held November 21, 2015 and it was declared inconclusive by INEC. The APC candidate Prince Abubakar Audu, also died during the inconclusive election in which the APC was force to nominate Yahaya Bello as its flag bearer.
Yahaya Hello was later declared as the winner of the election by INEC.
The appellants have prayed the Court to allow their appeals because the votes at that election was for Audu and not for Bello, saying that the votes in the election was for the candidate and not for the party.
They mentioned that Bello did not participate in all the processes and stages of the election, adding that he did not nominate a deputy.
On his part, Bello has urged the apex Court to dismiss all the appeals and affirm his election as Kogi State governor.
