Tragedy struck in the sleepy community of Ubiekpo Abor in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State at the weekend when a middle-aged woman, Mrs. Eunice Ugwuozor, was stabbed to death by her son, Uchechukwu.
A statement from the state police command through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ebere Amaraizu, confirming the incident, noted that operatives of the state criminal investigation of the command had commenced a full scale investigation to unravel the mystery and circumstances surrounding dastardly act.
He said the alleged stabbing to death took place around 5a.m. on October 2, when the suspect sneaked to the bed where the mother was lying down and stabbed her to death, adding that the command was yet to unearth the motive behind the attack.
The suspect, said to be in his 20s or early 30s abandoned the lifeless body of his mother and escaped to an unknown destination after the murderous attack.
According to Amaraizu, sources close to the family hinted that the suspected murderer was linked to an unresolved psychological problem.
He said the body of the deceased had already been deposited at the hospital mortuary of Our Saviour located at Ninth Mile corner Ngwo Enugu just as the suspect had also been apprehended by the operatives
Similarly, the command said it had through its operatives of the Anti Kidnapping Unit of the command nabbed a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping kingpin identified as one Chukwudebelu Onyebuchi.
Amaraizu in a statement, said the feat was in line with the command’s renewed massive onslaught against crime and criminality.
Amaraizu said the suspect had involved himself in series of kidnapping and armed robbery within Anambra and Enugu axis but resides at Owerri, the Imo State capital.
He said the suspect was trailed and arrested in Owerri recently after a gun battle that ensued, which left him fatally injured following a report of nefarious activities.
Recovered from him, according to the police spokesman were an AK 47 riffle with bullets stocked under the back seat of a Toyota Corolla car with the registration No. US 45 KJA and a phone.
He said the suspect is helping the police in their investigation as he has revealed how he and gangs had terrorised their victims both in Nigeria and other parts of the world, maintaining that he used to live in Johannesburg, South Africa before he joined the gang.
He however begged for forgiveness.
