Army Deploys Seven New Commanders In North-East

The Nigerian Army said on Thursday that it had reorganised Operation Lafiya Dole, the military operation tackling Boko Haram in the North-East, by deploying seven new commanders to tackle insurgency in the area.

According to the army, the commanders are to head 22 Brigade, 25 Task Force Brigade, 26 Task Force Brigade, 27 Task Force Brigade, 28 Task Force Brigade, 37 Brigade and the Nigeria Police Force operation.

Our correspondent learnt that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, ordered the deployment in line with the Minister of Defence Mansur Dan-Ali’s directive that Operation Lafiya Dole should be reorganised to tackle the terrorists more effectively.

According to the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig Gen Sani Usman, the new commanders have been ordered to remain committed and fully in charge “in line with standard operating procedures and military professional ethics.”

He said, “New Brigade Commanders have been appointed for some of the Brigades at Operation Lafiya Dole. They are Brig Gen E.F Oyinlola, Brig Gen V.U Okoro, Brig Gen A.B Mohammed, Brig Gen A.O Oyelade, Brig Gen M.T Usman, Brig Gen M.G Kangye, and Brig Gen A.S Ishaq.

“Similarly, the development has affected several Commanding Officers of the various units in Operation Lafiya Dole among others. This is in order to inject new hands into the fight against terrorism and other operations.”
