CHAIRMAN of the just concluded national conference, Justice Idris Kutigi (retd), has said the final submission of the conference report to President Goodluck Jonathan has laid to rest, the apprehension that the conference will lead to disintegration of Nigeria.
He said those who thought that Nigeria would break up would be disappointed that the national conference had united Nigerians more than ever before.
In his speech, entitled: “Submission of 2014 National Conference Report,” Kutigi admitted that delegates engaged themselves in robust debates with tempers flare at some points, adding that the differences were, however, amicably resolved.
Kutigi also lauded President Jonathan for showing unusual courage to convoke the conference, in spite of crisis in the country, while he also lauded the president for not interferring in its proceedings.
“It was only expected that tempers would fly and tempers did fly. Mr President, we did not try to ignore or bury our differences,” he said.
He told the president that the conference approved over 600 resolutions, adding that the delegates showed courage in tackling substantial and fundamental issues.
“On behalf of the delegates to the 2014 national conference, I thank you for your courage in summoning this conference,” he said.
