NORTHERN leaders under the aegis of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) have warned against the planned rally by supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 Presidential ambition, saying that such campaign may plunge the nation into further confusion amidst her security challenges.
According to ACF, “in the past two weeks or so, there have been series of advertisements in both electronic and print media on a planned political rally in the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria by an association known as Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) to garner support for Mr President Goodluck Jonathan against 2015 elections”.
.The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that the exercise commences from yesterday till August 25.
Speaking at the various stops across the LGAs, Obiano told the crowd who turned out in large numbers to welcome his entourage that the Permanent Voters Card would enable Ndi Anambra to participate in future elections.
According to a statement by the northern socio-cultural group, although the members of TAN are certainly Nigerians entitled to their fundamental rights of association and free movement in any part of Nigeria as guaranteed in the Nigerian constitution, their mission to prosecute Jonathan presidential campaign for 2015 at this auspicious period in Nigeria might be counter-productive.
The statement that was signed by the Forum’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Mohammad Ibrahim, noted that “the present mood of the nation in the face of insecurity challenges of daily attacks on innocent souls by Boko Haram insurgents in the North, ritual killings in the West, kidnappings of prominent persons in the South-South and armed robbery in the East and the sudden entry of Ebola virus into the country through one Mr. Sawyer calls for sober reflection, prayers and support to confront the challenges rather than the solidarity rally being planned by TAN”.
