Dele Momodu, a supporter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 election, has predicted that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will be worse than that of the previous President, Muhammadu Buhari.
In a series of tweets on Monday, Mr Momodu made this prediction and chastised Tinubu for remaining silent about the wrongdoings of the previous administration, implying that his administration is now bearing the consequences of his inaction regarding the wrongdoings of the president-elect’s administration.
“Tinubu kept absolutely quiet on the Buhari government as it vandalized Nigeria. Now we are paying dearly for it,” Mr. Momodu wrote.
“It is now very obvious that Tinubu’s government will be far worse than Buhari’s with the reckless and over-bloated appointments,” he added.
The Recorder gathered that his remarks coincide with the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians as a result of Tinubu’s recent decision to eliminate fuel subsidies. This also comes at a time when the nation is struggling with the effects of the sharp decline in the value of the naira and the elimination of fuel subsidies.
After taking office, President Tinubu promptly stopped fuel subsidies and floated the national currency.
The move by President Bola Tinubu triggered a rise in the pump price of fuel from about N186 per litre to over N600 per litre, which it currently sells for.
While economists have praised President Tinubu for his audacious action, Nigerians have yet to fully recover from the devastating effects of his decision, as prices of commodities have continued to rise following the continued loss of the naira’s value in the forex market.
