Former member of the House of Representatives and
Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pascal Adigwe, has stated that
equity, fairness and justice demands that the Northern Senatorial District
produces the next governor of Delta State in 2015.
He also
expressed optimism that the meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee
(NEC) slated for January 8 will resolve the crisis rocking the party and ensure
that the gale of defections is stopped.
Adigwe who
spoke to Saturday Independent on Friday in Abuja, said: “The
PDP NEC is made up of outstanding, experienced, loyal, patriotic and
distinguished Nigerians whose coming together, I believe, will blow the party
well.

On the
gale of defections, Adigwe admitted that “there is no doubt that the defections
is a reduction of the party’s strength and number as a party, considering the
quality of persons that are defecting. Personally, I consider it as a bad omen
for the party; I am worried, I am very disturbed about it. You remember the
parable of the lost sheep where the shepherded left the 99 and went after one
lost sheep; I believe that all efforts should be made to get the defected
members back to the party. It also tells the party that all is not well within
and that it is high time we reviewed the modus
operandi
. I see a lot if them retracing their steps and coming back to the
party while some conducting the local politics will stick to their guns.

On the
clamor by the Delta North to produce the state’s governor in 2015, Adigwe
stated that equity and fairness demands that the zone produces the next
governor, having supported the other zones in the past.
According
to him, “Unfortunately, Nigeria has not got to a level where there is a
political think-tank where ideas are churned out, researched and distributed.
We have not got to that level, otherwise there won’t be any basis for
agitations.
“People
like us come from the ideology that recognises fairness, equity and justice; I
come from the political ideology that believes that the only way Nigeria can
move forward politically, is when we have a free, fair and people-oriented
elections.”
Adigwe
said: “The other parts of Delta will reciprocate the magnanimity of the Delta
North to govern the state as there are very credible people from Delta North
that can govern the state. Because all the other zones have produced the
governor of the state, if everybody obeys these natural laws of equity and
justice, and magnanimity reciprocated, there is nothing stopping the Delta
North producing the next governor of Delta State in 2015.
