Tongues are wagging over a visit by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caretaker committee to former Kano State governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, an APC chieftain, in Kano.
Checks by Daily Trust yesterday revealed that the visit and remarks made by the former governor have elicited questions from many political observers on whether he is planning to leave the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). During the visit, the PDP caretaker committee chairman in Kano, Hassan Kafayos, said the team was there to strengthen ties with the former governor.
Responding, Shekarau said he had a record of maintaining good relations with people from other parties, saying he could always play politics under the platform of any political party.
“The most important thing is one’s intention. Even in Satan’s party one can go there and bring the required change,” Shekarau told the PDP delegates. Former information commissioner in She-karau’s administration, Barrister Haruna Isa Deideiri, yesterday said he didn’t believe that Shekarau is contemplating leaving the APC.
“Personally, I feel that Malam (Shekarau) is not leaving APC. I know he would want to be part of any move to emancipate Nigerians, therefore it is wrong to interpret the visit of the PDP team as a move by Malam to leave the APC,” Deideiri said.
