Sullivan Chime of Enugu State may soon reconcile with his first wife, Iffy,
from whom he was estranged some years back. The governor’s second wife, Clara,
recently left the Government House, Enugu, following the storm raised by her
alleged confinement to the complex on the order of the governor, on grounds of
illness. Iffy, who has four children – two boys and two girls – for the
governor, had relocated abroad following their separation. She was recently
sighted at her son’s newly completed building. She is a mass communication
graduate.
Sources in Enugu said yesterday that the departure of Clara from
Government House may have provided an ample opportunity for Iffy to return to
the embrace of the governor to become first lady .Governor Chime was in his
early 20s when he married the then 17 year old Iffy. Both are from Udi near
Enugu and share a similar aristocratic background. Chime’s father was a
minister in the First Republic before becoming the traditional ruler of Udi
town while Iffy’s father was a diplomat and aspired to succeed Chime’s father
as traditional ruler after his demise. Said an elder from Udi: “We expect that
the two “children” will come back as husband and wife. We know that it was
youthful exuberance coupled with inexperience and immaturity that led to their
separation.” Clara is currently staying with her mother in Port Harcourt,
Rivers State. Government officials and family sources bluntly refused to
discuss the issue. “This is a private family affair. Why not allow them sort
themselves out as they want. It is not a matter for public consumption.”
