THE Global System of Mobile Communications (GSM) services have been shut down again, following the ongoing military special operations against Boko Haram
insurgency in the Sambisa Forests, Lake Chad Basin Areas and Dikwa in the state.
The shutdown of the GSM networks, commenced at the weekend, and reopened for only 16 hours on Monday and shut down again Tuesday night
with no network services up till Wednesday afternoon of filling this report.
Subscribers to the GSM firms in Maiduguri metropolis Wednesday could not make or receive calls on their mobile phones, as the service
icons, including the telecom firms’ names were blank on all the phone screens.
Speaking on the shut down Wednesday in Maiduguri, the spokesman of 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Col. Mohammed Dole said: “we need your
support and cooperation in the ongoing Special Military Operations in the Sambisa Forests; and Konduga-Bama-Gwoza-Damboa axis of central and
southern Borno State; and similar operations in the Lake Chad Basin areas under the Multi National Joint Task Force (MJTF) in northern part of this state.”
He said the temporary shutdown of GSM services in the state, was part of the special military operations to end Boko Haram insurgency in the
state and other border areas with Chad, Cameroun and Niger in the northeast sub-region of the country.
