The former minister of Aviation and former Corps Marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Chief Osita Chidoka has picked the governorship nomination form of the United Progressive Party (UPP) ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
Picking the form yesterday at the UPP national secretariat in Abuja,amid singing and dancing by thousands of his supporters who stormed the venue, Chief Osita Chidoka promised to reposition Anambra State if he is elected governor.
He expressed readiness to work for the economic development of Anambra State through well-coordinated economic policies that would make the state the envy of other states.
He also promised people-focused change in Anambra State if elected governor.
Meanwhile, against the backdrop of the boycott threat by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on the governorship election slated for Anambra State in November, the national chairman of the United Peoples Party (UPP), Chief Chekwas Okorie has said the election will go on as scheduled.
The national chairman stated this yesterday shortly after the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka picked his nomination form on the platform of UPP at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja to join in the governorship race.
He said that the boycott order and the demand for referendum by IPOB were baseless, adding that if the election is boycotted, those who participated would determine the outcome of the election. Okorie also said that the demand for a referendum by IPOB is not in Nigeria’s
constitution, adding that even if it is, such things are usually done with voters’ cards.
Calling on IPOB to reconsider their stand, Okorie explained that when UPGA boycotted election in the past, it made way for the NNDP to triumph.
The national chairman, however, promised that when they take over the government at the centre, they will then ensure that the issue of referendum is enshrined in the constitution of the country.
Speaking on the chances of his party winning in the election, Chief Okorie said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had no candidate, adding that they have two factions that are yet to agree on the future of the party. Each of the factions, according to him plans convention for different dates, which according to him shows that they don’t have the slightest chance of making meaningful impact in the election.
On the All Progressives Congress (APC), he said that the party is in disarray not only in the state, but in the country in general. “So based on the popularity and stability in the UPP, we are sure of winning the election,” he stated.
