Various chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are expected to hold meetings today to take a decision on the current strike by the association after considering the recent overtures from President Gooodluck Jonathan.
ASUU’s about 120 chapters and branches will simultaneously hold congresses where lecturers would be given opportunities to voice their opinions on the strike. If at the end of the congresses, a simple majority vote for an end to the strike is secured, the national leadership of ASUU would have no option than to call it off, our correspondent gathered yesterday. According to the chairman of ASUU in the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Dr. Muhammad Kabir Aliyu, the chapter’s congress will start 10:00am at the Smith Lecture Theatre in the university’s Faculty of Arts. Some lecturers told Daily Trust yesterday that they wanted an end to the strike.
