A serving lawmaker in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Ebamugha Empere, has reportedly sent his wife packing for picking forms to contest for his seat in the 2015 elections on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Empere, who is in his second term at the 24-member Assembly, is said to be seeking the same ticket as the PDP candidate to represent Sagbama Constituency 3 for a third term.
It was gathered that Empere threw his wife, identified as Tare, out of their flat at the New Assembly Quarters, Azikoro Village, Yenagoa, on Tuesday evening after he learnt of her ambition.
He and his wife come from Agbere community in Sagbama Local Government Area, and she was said to have kept her intentions hidden from her husband.
Sources said Empere was angry that his wife had the audacity to join his opponents in challenging him for the seat in the forthcoming elections.
Tare was said to have submitted her expression of interest and nomination forms earlier on Tuesday at the state secretariat of the party in Yenagoa, a few days after she collected and filled them appropriately.
Sources said trouble started when Empere got wind of Tare’s moves and ordered his aides to throw her belongings out of the gate.
Infuriated by her husband’s action, however, she reportedly got them arrested for “assisting” to evacuate her belongings.
When contacted, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Eboka Rowland, claimed he was not aware of the incident.
