As the military Joint Task Force (JTF) intensifies its operations to wipe out the terror campaigns of the Boko Haram in the North, the Traditional Religion Worshippers Association, (TRAWSO), Osun State chapter, has expressed its readiness to assist the Federal Government in putting an end to the killings and other carnage done by the insurgents.
TRAWSO assured that it would only carry out some sacrifices, which would automatically compel the recalcitrant insurgents to lay down their arms, provided the Federal Government was ready to opt for their intervention.
President of the association, Chief Awopetu Idowu, stated this while addressing journalists at a press conference organised as part of activities marking this year’s Isese Day due to hold on Tuesday, August 20.
Awopetu contended that rather than attribute the wanton destruction of lives and properties that the country has witnessed since the insurgency commenced in 2009 on religion as the members and leaders of the radical sect had claimed, the massacre of innocent Nigerian has political undertone and, therefore, charged the Federal Government to formally approach traditional worshippers to solve the problem.
Apparently corroborating the position of the president, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the association, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon, said the insecurity facing the country could be resolved without the use of firearms as there werepropitiations that could be made to make members of the sect lay down their arms.
Commenting on the activities lined up for the celebration of the Isese Day, Idowu said in furtherance of the religious impartiality stand of the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, Osun State should observe Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st August as public holidays to allow the traditionalists to celebrate their day.
Awopetu lauded the introduction of the study of Ifa religion in public primary and secondary schools and appealed to the government to put a machinery in motion for the take-off of the initiative
