Despite efforts being made by the military and other security agencies to reclaim some communities overran by Boko Haram in the North-east, the group has continued to establish its hold on some other communities in Borno state.
Our investigation revealed that the group has written a letter notifying the people of Hawul local government of its intention to take over General Hospital at Azare which is the local government headquarters.
The residents of the communities have continued to live in fear of the group and expressed worry that nothing has been done since the affected communities informed security agents over a week ago.
“Now, since the notice of taking over of General Hospital, Azare, Headquarters of Hawul local government was severed over a week and the closure of the hospital nothing is being done to give the people hope.
“Miringa and Gunda axis on the North/Eastern flank of Biu is not only unsafe, but closed for any rescue mission to come in not to talk of escape route for our people.
“What I don’t understand is that does government want to take measures only after the people have been destroyed with their means of survival before intervention just like it did to Bama, Gamboru Ngala and Gwoza?”
Sources within the affected communities told Blueprint that the members of the dreaded Boko Haram group now preach openly in some communities in Hawul Local Government area of Borno state.
“They now preach in the open in some parts of Hawul local government. They sometimes urge the people not to fear them for they do not kill just anybody but they have selected persons as target.”
“They don’t hide their identity anymore. Every local knows them From Sanyere to Tashan Alade to Pelambiri to Whitambaya to Walama in Shani local government and other surrounding villages. ”
The source told Blueprint that Biu local government which is a major local government which has not been overran by Boko Haram is the main target of the group.
“I wonder if the federal government would want to claim that it is not aware of the unfortunate development. There is no security except those on patrol passing through the interstate road. These was how Bama, Gamboru Ngala, Dambao and Gwoza were overran by the Boko Haram.”
