A couple in a divorce case had sex early Monday morning, before appearing before an Ejigbo Customary Court, Lagos State, for proceedings in the matter.
The wife, Mariam Jimoh, however, told the court that as long as her husband was making love to her regularly, she was going nowhere.
The husband, Sunday Jimoh, was hell-bent on seeing her back, saying sharing same roof and bed with her was just for the children’s sake.
Though married for 10 years, the court appearance was the first time parents on both sides would be meeting.
Both parents asked the court to allow for out-of-court settlement because of the children.
It was a drama galore as Mariam, an indigene of Ogun State, told the court her story, insisting that the marriage had come to stay.
Sunday from Oyo State, who instituted the divorce proceedings, said he no longer loved her.
The mother of two, however, insisted her husband still loved her, as evident in their living together in same apartment, sleeping together on the same bed and making love regularly as husband and wife.
She also told the court that Sunday made love to her passionately early Monday morning before they came to court for the proceedings.
The husband did not counter the claim.
She wondered why her husband would claim he was no more in love with her, whereas they were planning for another baby.
Mariam said that they were living peacefully, because he was providing for them and she was playing her role as wife by taking care of him and children.
“Where does he want me to go after having two children, alongside the sacrifices I have made for 10 years to keep the relationship?” She asked rhetorically.
She also voiced her amazement that Sunday brought her to the court for divorce even when she showered him love.
According to her, their relationship began when she was in secondary school and they later got married without the consent of her parents.
The union, had produced two children— David, 6, and Simon, 4, despite the fact that no bride price was paid, according to her narrative.
Mariam said she was surprised when she received court summons to appear before the court, adding that the summons did not stop them from living as a couple.
Sunday confirmed that they were still living together because of the children but that he was tired of the marriage, because her parents did not support it in the first place.
The court adjourned the case till July 30 for report of settlement.
