At last, the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Inde Abdulahi Diko, has bowed to pressure and showered promotion on all deserving personnel in the Service.
Few weeks ago, National Mirror reported on the lopsidedness in the recent promotion released by the Service.
The earlier list was alleged to have favoured personnel along regional and religious line with largest population in the Service and representation at management level.
Others who found themselves promoted outside that were said to be those who liaised with people in promotion office closely with something after allegedly greasing palms.
For instance, in the whole of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)Area Command, National Mirrorlearnt that those promoted were unacceptably few and mostly older officers with few years to leave service.
Majority of the relatively new officers who were employed around 2009 and were due for promotions were denied by the first list.
National Mirror had earlier reported on the apprehension of these personnel when the exercise was delayed more than necessary after the examination that commenced around May 2013.
The people had expressed faith in the CG to grant them promotion but were very disappointed after that first list that their names were missing.
The disappointment led to a serious uproar that National Mirror reported about two weeks ago, as many personnel even reportedly took ill on hearing that unfortunate news.
However, last week, the Customs Boss who sources tried to absolve from having full knowledge of that controversial promotion list, gave in to pressure ordering approving a second list where all deserving personnel were promoted.
National Mirror learnt that the CG was so gracious to order that whoever did not find his or her name on the list should bring it forward for promotion to be effected.
The news of the new list where so many deserving personnel were promoted sent the personnel into jubilation as they continued to call their relatives and friends to share the good news with the Christians continuing with the sharing of testimonies in their churches over the promotion that has finally reached them.
Those who spoke to National Mirror commended Diko for listening to the voice of reason and promoting his personnel enmas, praying too for him to receive God’s blessings.
