A member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Ndudi Elumelu, has hinted that he would sue the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), over character assassination.
Hon. Elumelu, ex-Chairman, House Committee on Power and Steel that probed the power sector, posited that having been discharged and acquitted over charges levelled against him by the EFCC, he would go to court to redeem his image.
He revealed that since his arrest and arraignment in court, his life has not been the same because of the avalanche of publicity given to the prosecution locally and internationally.
The former committee chairman who represents Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency revealed that some powers that be were behind his travails, adding that it happened because he refused to dance to their tune by not killing the said controversial power sector report.
Making this disclosure at his country home, Onicha-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, he said “power is something that if you don’t have it, there can be no meaningful development and our task was an opportunity for us to unravel all the atrocities that were committed in the sector.
“My colleagues were people committed to ensuring that Nigerians were given stable electricity and we wanted Nigerians to know what happened, that money exchanged hands. This is because one could not understand why the 132/33KVA substation in Asaba, which cost N9.6billion, was paid for and the contractor has not completed the project since 2005.
“The question is what happened and why was it so? Those were the issues I looked at. Asaba falls within my constituency and I go home to expect my people to have stable electricity and that was the reason why they voted me into office.
“It was very ridiculous and let me tell you that the Asagba of Asaba at that time, led a delegation to the then President, asking that they should give us a substation for stable light. That was one of the reasons I refused to dilute the report as requested because I am a Deltan. I wanted the police to know the truth. They attempted to bribe us, they gave us all manners of offer and we rejected them all.”
