Worried by the non-supply of electricity to Aniocha and Oshimili communities for over seven years, the lawmaker representing Aniocha North constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Osi Okocha, has set up a ten-member committee to unravel the root cause.
Okocha, while expressing displeasure over the poor supply by the electricity distribution company in the state capital, said that the committee was charged with the task of investigating the unusually slow pace of work by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
Reacting on Thursday to the epileptic power supply in Asaba and surrounding areas, the lawmaker lamented that BEDC, which is in charge of electricity distribution in Delta and Edo States, has been unable to restore power to the affected communities, some for several years running.
He wondered why BEDC has continued to give the same excuse without end of being in the process to restore electricity to the Aniocha and Oshimili communities with ongoing repair of the damaged lines.
Okocha stressed that the issue of electricity supply is a serious concern in Aniocha area due to its socio-economic implications and sued for more patience among the people of the area as everything possible was beingndone to ensure that once light was restored in the area steady supply would be sustained.
“It is a bitter experience; electricity is very essential in life”, Okocha pointed out. “Apart from any other business, we sleep with light, the artisans in the street that do their business need power supply. So, it is something that is very useful to the community.”
