The former inspector-general of police (IGP), Solomon Arase, is dead.
He was 69 years old.
Arase, a former chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), died at about 9am on Sunday at Cedarcrest Hospital in Abuja.
The deceased’s son, Solomon Arase Jnr., announced the passing of his father on behalf of the family.
“The family seeks the understanding and prayers of friends, associates and well-wishers at this difficult moment, as they make necessary arrangements for his obsequious which will be announced in due course,” Arase Jnr. said in a statement seen by The Recorder.
Born on June 21, 1956, Arase enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in 1981 after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in political science at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
He served in various departments in the NPF and rose to the apex of his police career in April 2015 when he was appointed as the IGP by then President Goodluck Jonathan.
He retired in June 2016 after serving 35 years in the NPF.
