A Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, granted bail to former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Haliru Mohammed Bello and his son, Abba, in the sum of N300 million each.
Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed, in his ruling on the bail applications by the former PDP chairman and his son, held that they were entitled to bail as the offences for which they are charged do no carry capital punishment.
The court, in its ruling delivered, on Thursday, admitted the former PDP chairman to bail in the sum of N300 million and that he should provide two sureties, one of which must be a civil servant of the rank of a director, who must have a landed property in Abuja worth N300 million.
Justice Mohammed also held that for Haliru Mohammed Bello to be released on bail, his sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and the particulars of the sureties shall be verified by the court.
The sureties, the judge held must also submit title document of the landed property to the court as well as their recent passport photographs.
Part of the bail conditions for Abba, the court held, are two sureties, one must be a civil servant of not lower than that grade level 12, the sureties must swear to an affidavit of means and must submit their international passports and recent passport photographs with the court.
Justice Mohammed said the defendants cannot interfere with course of justice since the prosecution said they had concluded investigation into the matter before arraigning the defendants.
While Abba is to be returned to Kuje prison until be perfects his bail conditions, Justice Mohammed said the former PDP boss would remain at the Abuja clinic where he is currently receiving treatment under the watch of the Inspector General of Police as earlier ordered by the court.
The court then adjourned the matter till February 16 for trial.
The former PDP Chairman was on Tuesday brought to the court on a wheelchair to face the four-count charge slammed against him and his son by the EFCC.
Bello was arraigned alongside his son and their company, BAM Projects & Properties Limited, over their alleged involvement in the $2.1 billion arms deal during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Ex-PDP chairman, alongside his son, are alleged to have aided in the diversion of funds slated for arms procurement by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The duo are being held by the EFCC for collecting N600 million from the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd).
They pleaded not guilty to all the charges slammed against them.
