THE Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has described as untrue, reports that a United States (US) Air Marshal was injected at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Monday and suffered attack outside departure hall of the airport.
According to a Port Health Services source at the airport, the affected air marshal, whose name was simply given as Timothy, was earlier seen in company with four of his colleagues before the alleged attack.
It was also alleged that the incident happened between 7.15 p.m and 7.35 p.m on Sunday evening, immediately the air marshal alighted from a vehicle that conveyed him and four others to the airport.
The attacker, after the assault on Timothy, was said to have taken to his heels, but other air marshals were able to recover the syringe from the assailant.
An online report had confirmed that the affected air marshal had already been quarantined in Houston, United States, since Monday.
But FAAN, in a statement issued by its General Manager Public Affairs, Yakubu Dati, said “its attention has been drawn to a story making the rounds that a US Marshal was assaulted at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
“Following the report, a team from the US Embassy met with the airport Joint Security team and, at their request, viewed footages of the movement of the said marshal captured on our CCTV cameras.
“Preliminary observation from the CCTV footages did not show evidence of such occurrence. Relevant security agencies have since commenced investigation into the matter.
“The FAAN wishes to assure all air travellers and the general public of our commitment to safety and security of our airports.”
