FG SAVED N1.4TR FROM SUBSIDY PAYMENTS

Date:

Vice President; Professor Yemi Osinbajo in Kano yesterday, said federal government has so far saved N1.4trillion from subsidy payments, saying the savings is greatly easing pressure on the nation’s internal reserves.

Speaking at the 15th National Council Meeting held in Kano, Professor Osinbajo said success on any economic development plan requires team work, commitment and sacrifice at all levels of government.
“No modern economic plan can make notable development without sound strategic plan. Nigeria has everything that can take it to the promising land, so it left for all of us to team up and move the country forward,” he said.
He said Buhari-led administration is making frantic efforts towards achieving sustainable economic development, saying “meeting of this nature would allow effective implementation of various national policies, programmes and plans aimed at achieving sustainable development.”
His remarks, Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by his Deputy, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, said the meeting was critical and timely, saying it has come at a time when the country was facing serious economic challenges.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, said the nation’s economy was undergoing trying times, hence, the need for the country to come up with a plan that will address the challenge of reliance on oil.
