Mr Olala Osondu, Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ahaoda West Local Government Area of Rivers State, was, in the early hours of Tuesday, shot dead by unknown gunmen.
Osondu, until his murder, was also the state secretary of the Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI), a campaign organisation of Governor Nyesom Wike.
The deceased was said to be returning to his residence off Rufus Ada-George Road at about 12:30 a.m on Tuesday, after a meeting, when the gunmen killed him.
A source, who did not want to be mentioned, said the deceased’s wife said she heard two gunshots outside their compound after she had sighted her husband’s car.
It was said that the deceased’s wife came outside shortly after the gunshots, only to find her husband dead.
It was also gathered that the did not pick anything in the man’s car after killing him.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Ezike, while confirming the incident, said he got a phone call at around 3:00 a.m., informing him that the man had been killed.
He said investigations were on track down the perpetrators of the act.
