Former Chief Security Officer to late former Head of State General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, yesterday said that he was not surprised by the decision of the Lagos state government to proceed to the Supreme Court to challenge the judgement that set him free in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola.
Al-Mustapha told Blueprint in an exclusive telephone interview that the Lagos state government had not erred in anyway by heading for the apex court.
He said: “By heading for the Supreme Court, the Lagos state government is just exercising its constitutional right to justice. I don’t think they have done something strange. After all, when the Lagos High Court sentenced me and I was not satisfied I also exercised that right by going to the Court of Appeal, which gave me freedom.
“This right to appeal forms the basis of a society that is governed by the rule of law and that is what our country is.”
On his expectations at the apex court Al-Mustapha said he was confident that justice would be done and that he would have the last laugh.
He placed his confidence on his faith in the country’s judiciary.
