Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase has ordered a census of all policemen in the country with a view to ascertaining the real strength of the police force.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in Research and Planning in charge of the North Central Zone, Mr Kakwe Christopher, disclosed this in Minna, Niger state, on Wednesday when he paid a courtesy call on the Niger state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Ketso.
Kakwe Christopher explained that the census will also enable the force to know the distribution of officers and men and determine areas of deficiencies.
The Inspector General of Police has decided that we should know exactly what percentage of the total number of personnel we have been talking about, those in actual police work’.
The DIG submitted that at times Nigerians say the country is heavily policed forgetting that there are policemen not on actual police work while some a civilian policemen in civil work, adding that the census will determine these category of people and bring out the actual strength of policemen on police duty
This a good development.
