IG ORDERS SHAKE-UP IN GOVS’ SECURITY DETAILS

Date:

The Inspector-General of
Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the immediate withdrawal of Camp
Commanders, Guard Commanders and Officers-in-Charge of Anti –Bomb Units attached
to all the 36 state governors of the federation. The order was contained in a
signal sent from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, to all commissioners of police
in the 36 state commands.
In the signal, the I-G declared that all police
officers posted to enforce security around governors and government houses, who
are addressed as, or referred to as “Camp Commanders, Guard Commanders, or
Officers-in-Charge of Anti-Bomb Units”, are at variance with formal police
nomenclature.

The signal maintained that “these appellations are
not recognized by the Nigeria Police Force,” and as such all officers posted on
routine duties to government houses bearing such appellations should cease
forthwith.
Going by the directive of the Inspector-General of
Police, all state commissioners of police are empowered to withdraw and
redeploy police officers who are currently on routine duties at government
houses in the states, who are addressed as “Camp Commanders, Guard Commanders
or Officers-in-Charge of Anti-Bomb Units.”
