The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has ordered the promotion of Sergeant Godwin Osayi to the rank of Inspector for making bullet-proof vest from local materials.
Arase gave the order when he addressed members of Police/Public Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital, on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
Arase also ordered the promotion of nine policemen, led by Corporal Bala Mohammed, who mounted a Guard of Honour, for their professionalism.
He said modern policing was no longer possible without assistance from members of the public.
He said given their current strength, the police could not be everywhere without the help of the public.
Arase said PCRC should be seen and must be seen as the same all over the country and should shun bribery and unnecessary detention.
He urged members of PCRC in the state to always liaise with the police hierarchy to ensure that unnecessary detention and collection of bribes were stemmed.
