Former Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has said that contrary to widespread rumours that he was dead, he is alive and doing well.
Babangida added that even though death was inevitable and he is conscious of that, he still believes in, and is looking towards the greatness of Nigeria in no distant time.
In an interview with journalists in his hilltop mansion in Minna, Niger State on Sunday, Babangida declared that Nigeria will surely surmount its present challenges and secure a very beautiful future for the younger generations.
The former leader stressed that the future of the country is bright and the dreams of Nigerians for the country to become an economic giant would be realised.
He said: “I still believe very strongly in this country which is further demonstrated by the people of this great nation because they are very industrious; this gives me the hope of a better Nigeria.”
On the rumour that he was dead, Babangida said: “For me, it did not shock me because I know I must go and meet my Creator one day; there is nothing really to worry about; my religion has told me that.
”As a Muslim I strongly believe everybody will die and everybody has to die; it could be now or in a hundred year’s time or two days to come but it doesn’t matter, everybody must die,” he submitted.
The former leader remarked that nobody is above sickness or death because “nobody is above what God has destined as everybody will fall sick or die one day.”
He however congratulated the Queen of England for marking her 90th birthday recently, whilst wishing her good health and long life.
