The Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Prof Yusuf Al-Hasaan, yesterday faulted the submissions of the institution’s visitation panel suggesting that his educational credentials are not genuine.
The chairman of the panel set up by the state government to look into the affairs of the institution, Ahmed T. Abdullahi, had while submitting their report to the state governor, Engr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso last week expressed doubts over the qualification of the rector.
Abdullahi had said in the course of their assignment which lasted nine weeks, the panel approached the rector to present his credentials for verification but instead, he brought photocopies of his academic certificates which could not be authenticated.
The rector said he could not present the original copies of his credentials to the panel, because they were in the United States.“I presented photocopies of my credentials to the panel because I don’t have the originals here. They are in the US, where I’ve been for the past 30 years. I returned to the country about 12 months ago to take up this appointment.
“So when they came, I phoned my wife and she sent the scanned copies of the credentials to me and that was what I presented to them. They agreed, but I was surprised when my attention was drawn to the reports that my qualifications were doubtful. I have just returned from US with my original credentials,” he said.
Al-Hassan who presented original copies of his credentials to newsmen, said he did his Bachelor’s degree at the Mc-Gill University US; Master’s, at the City University of New York and his doctorate at the University of Missouri, Columbia, US.
“I got my professorship at the I support Learning Inc, US in 2008. In this digital age, you can verify the authenticity of my credentials online. Just type my name and the university you will see it,” he said.
