The Lagos State Government says it will be re-launching the
Special Traffic Mayors Corps (STM) under the platform of the Lagos State
Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), in furtherance of its objective to
ensure free vehicular movement on the roads.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode
Opeifa, who disclosed this to Newsmen, said the state Governor, Mr. Babatunde
Raji Fashola is billed to re-launch the Corps soon in the state.

He said it is part of efforts to complement the
activities of officials of LASTMA.
According to him, the move became necessary because
the state government appreciates the efforts of the Special Traffic Mayors
(STM) and wants to improve their effectiveness by exposing them to the latest
traffic management strategies especially in view of the 2012 Road Traffic Law.
Opeifa appealed to old members to come along with one
passport size photograph to the Ministry of Transportation for proper
documentation and to enable them get their identification cards.
The commissioner also urged members who do not have
complete kits to come around to perfect their documentation.
It would be recalled that the Special Traffic Mayor
(STM) was established by the Lagos State Government in 2008 to complement the
efforts of officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) .
The scheme was also designed to avail residents of the
state the opportunity to be part of the change in its traffic management
policy.
