A Lagos-based lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu A d e g b o r u w a , who won the case instituted to invalidate collection of Lekki-Ikoyi bridge against the Lagos State Government, has alleged that his home was invaded on Monday by gunmen who made an attempt to kill him.
The allegation was contained in a press statement issued yesterday, a copy of which was made available to National Mirror.
It would be recalled that on March 27, 2014, a Federal High Court in Lagos nullified the collection of any toll or tariff on the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge, stating that the collection of such fees was illegal.
Justice Saliu Saidu based its judgement on the grounds that there was no existing law in Lagos State permitting the collection of toll on the said newly constructed Lekki-Ikoyi suspension bridge.
The court further held that the power of control of all navigable waterways in Nigeria, resides in the Federal Government.
The suit had been filed by Adegboruwa against the Lagos State Government to contest imposition of toll on the bridge.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Attorney-General of Lagos State, and the Lagos State Government had been joined in the suit as co-respondents.
In his statement circulated yesterday, Adegboruwa stated that he believed the attack on his home was connected with “Lekki- Ikoyi bridge case I won against the Lagos State Government.”
He pointed suspicious fingers at forces he said had vested interests in the collection of the toll for masterminding the attack.
