There was a stir at the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, Delta State yesterday when a man who was presumed dead appeared.
Christopher Anirah, was subpoenaed by the tribunal to give evidence in court in the hearing of an election petition between Gibson Ighofose Akporehe of the APC and Evelyn Omavowan Oboro of the PDP.
Akporehe, a candidate in the House of Representatives election for Okpe/ Sapale/Uvwie federal constituency, through his counsel, Mr. Charles Umweni, had told the tribunal that a key witness to the petition (Anirah) could not come to testify because he died of cardiac arrest.
But a man who claimed to be Anirah yesterday rose and stepped into the witness box to give evidence when the chairman of the tribunal, Justice Adebukole Banjoko called the name.
The sudden appearance created confusion as the bewildered audience murmured in low tones, prompting Justice Banjoko to call for calm. Akporehe of the APC is challenging the election victory of Oboro.
