The Zamfara state Chairman of the Hisbah Commission, Dr. Atiku Balarabe Zawiyyah, has said that Governor AbdulAziz Yari, has developed interest in marrying one of the protesting 8000 widows who are demanding mass wedding.
The Hisbah chief quoted the governor as saying that his marriage to one of the widows would serve as an example to those who have vacancies in their matrimonial homes.
The governor has not made his choice public but the development has raised anxiety among the widows.
Going by the Kano state style of the mass wedding, a special committee to be set up will assess the family backgrounds for the governor, screen for HIV after which he has to accept all the wedding utensil Hisbah commission will provide for all the successful widows.
Zawiyyah further explained that the governor has directed all the members of his executive council who have vacancies to prepare for additional wives so that the number of widows in the state can be reduced drastically.
According to him, “those with less than four wives should open up and select their choices so that the initial 8000 widows and orphans who presented themselves to the commission for mass wedding can be contained.
The widows last week took to the streets of Gusau to register their grievances to the state Hisbah Commission for what they described as lackadaisical attitude of their male counterparts to open doors for them for marriage.
They called on the state government to make arrangements for mass wedding for them.
