A mentally unstable woman on Friday gave birth to a baby boy on a street in Ketu area of Lagos State.
The young woman, simply identified as Esther, went into labour and gave birth to ababy boy on Adisa Akintoye Street, Lagos and was later rushed to a maternity clinic, also on the same street.
According to an eye-witness, five women helped the woman to deliver her baby. They removed their wrappers to shield her while in labour and people in the neighbourhood also brought things like baby clothes, blade, thread, palm oil, water, sponge, soap, diaper, and spirit that was used to cut the umblical cord and bathe the baby.
According to findings, the Oba of Ketu and delegates from his palace visited her at the clinic. The traditional ruler notified a social welfare agency and also donated some amount of money for the upkeep of the baby.
According to some people in the neighbourhood, the woman is actually mentally unstable. It was alleged that some touts in the area took advantage of her condition and had sex with her.
A representative of the clinic said about three different agencies, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, had visited her in the hospital.
A source added that some agencies are working to take Esther and her baby back home to her family in Ondo State.
