Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase has said his late mother wept for him, for enlisting into the Nigerian Police.
Arase said his mother expressed regret that ‘his only surviving son of a public school teacher should join a profession that had very poor public perception thirty four years ago when he was enlisted.
The IGP dropped the hint at the weekened at Sabongidda, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo state where his kinsmen honoured him with a prestigious title, “The Ojie-Ogbase of Ora-land – The king is bigger.
He said regrettably, his late mother who passed on some years ago, could not witness his rise to the top echelon of his career.
“When I joined the Nigerian police Force 34 years ago, my mother was the most disappointed. She felt that as a school teacher that her only surviving son should opt for a profession that had very poor public perception.
“My only regret today is that she did not live long to watch this son get to the top of his career. It is in humility that I indeed considered as I stand before you all today as you honour me with this marvellously organised civic reception”, according to him, “Sabogidda-Ora represents an invaluable part of my life. Aside my maternal bond, the Holy Trinity Grammar school, Sabogidda-Ora, where this event is holding, is my Almamater.
“Standing here therefore elicits some emotional feelings as it reminds me of the good old days when on this ground, we were exposed to a rich mixture of stern discipline, academic excellence, sporting brilliance and a strong social and communal bond
