• We are not troubled, says Imo govt
Following the wind of impeachment blowing across All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled states, Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, may have resolved to seek succour across party lines.
This came to light recently when he played host to a kinsman of President Goodluck Jonathan and former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, at the Government House, Owerri.
Though, details of their discussions were not made public, dependable sources in GovernmentHouse, however, saidGovernorOkorochawas moving to placate Mr. President through the facilitation of Alamieyeseigha, who is believed to be an influential confidant of the President.
It is also widely believed that only President Jonathan can stay the actions of rampaging PDP legislators in such APC states as Nasarawa, Edo, Rivers and Imo in the event of an impeachment threat, hence the need to mend fences before the storm breaks.
The source also said Alamieyeseigha may have given the Imo State governor some conditions that must be fulfilled before any meaningful interventioncould takeplace.
Meanwhile, it has been severally averred by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders that Governor Okorocha would suffer the same fate like Dr. Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State in the 2015 governorship election in Imo State Fayemi lost his re-election for a second term in office to the PDP candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose on June 21.
The latest threat to Okorocha’s position has been credited to a PDP chieftain in the state, who is also a former commissioner for information in the immediate past PDP government, Nze Elvis Agukwe, who boasted recentlythat“ Okorochawillreceive the Fayemi treatment” in 2015.
Reacting to the threat by Agukwe yesterday, Okorocha’s spokesman, Sam Onwuemeodo, dismissed his assertions, insisting that the PDPisnotevenconsideredto be in contention for the governorship contest in 2015.
He said the Imo government is not in any way troubled as the PDP lacks organisation and the candidate to unseat the governor.
Onwuemeodo added that all the noise about the Imo PDP would always be traced to three or four leaders of the party, and some of the governorship aspirants on the platform of the party only.
