•Teams up with ex-Gov. Daniel
As 2015 general elections inch closer, strong indications emerged in Abeokuta yesterday that former governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, along with his political group has concluded plans to resuscitate Action Group (AG) as a new political party to enable battle the incumbent, Ibikunle Amosun, out of power.
Sunday Mirror reliably gathered that Osoba has succeeded in registering Action Group (AG) as a new platform through which he hopes to actualise his members’ 2015 political ambition since every effort to regain the control of All Progressives Congress of Nigeria (APC) has failed to yield the desired result.
A reliable source pleading anonymity within the Osoba “Ma T’agba Mole” group confided in Sunday Mirror at the weekend that the former governor acquired the certificate of registration for AG as a new political party within last week.
Our correspondent further gathered that Osoba’s resuscitation of AG enjoyed the backing of some powerful elements within the Presidency who are sympathetic to the former governor’s course over the humiliation he had suffered in the hands of his estranged god-son, Amosun.
Our source further added that part of the game plan to oust Amosun included a working arrangement between Osoba’s group and that of the immediate ex-governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, whose political associates would also be accommodated in the new party, AG.
The inclusion of former Governor Daniel and members of his political family, our correspondent gathered, was informed by the unending crisis within the state leadership of the Labour Party (LP) with which the former governor had hoped to actualise his Senatorial ambition come year 2015 general election.
Sunday Mirror recalls that there had been a renewed hostility against ex-governor Daniel in the Ogun State chapter of LP as the former state chairman, Comrade Olabode Simon, accused him and other members of the national leadership of the party as brains behind the alleged threat to his life which he claimed forced him to resign from office as the state chairman of the party.
Aside the allegation of threat to life of Simon, Sunday Mirror also gathered that the court action instituted against Daniel and the members of the LP National Working Committee (NWC) by the trio of Olabode Simon, Olaposi Oginni as the State Secretary as well as the State Financial Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, still subsists.
Against these backdrops, Sunday Mirror however, gathered that the Presidency ordered Daniel to team up with Osoba in the new political party, AG, so as not to jeopardise Daniel’s political ambition and that of his teeming followers in the forthcoming 2015 general election.
