Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday disassociated himself from the alleged diversion of $10 million from the bailout fund released by the Federal Government to states last year.
The governor, who was angry that the fraud was traced to his state by an online report after a national daily linked it to one of the incumbent South-South governors, said he was ‘appalled.’
While he described the report as part of a calculated attempt to assassinate his character, the governor warned detractors to desist from such forthwith.
Governor Okowa said since sources from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were quoted, the anti-graft agency should expose the identity of the affected governor. In a statement signed by his Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, in Asaba yesterday, the governor threatened to seek legal option should the perpetrators refused to retrace their steps.
